    Hi all,

There is very little hot air coming through the supply hose for the driver's side floor. The dealer said this is a design flaw by Fleetwood that they couldn't address. Anyone else have this problem, as well as a fix?

    Thanks, Brian

Some of us have had kitchen sink drainage  problems caused by a design problem in our newer Excursions.  It took a whole lot of phone calls to Fleetwood customer service to finally get a fix. I don't get much floor heat from the dash in my Excursion.  I combine the floor vent with the dash vents to keep us warm.

Wish I could say that directing the heat from the dash downward toward my feet was enough to make it even somewhat comfortable. Wearing extra thick socks helped, but not enough.

Regarding the kitchen drain hose: the dealer reworked the hosing after talking with Fleetwood. That did make a difference, but the water still fails to drain at times. Did your repair completely solve the problem?

Ii have the 2017 38k pace arrow and I get some heat from the floor but not enough to make a difference.  While I have u on the board, do you get excess wind noise on your coach?  What I mean, any time I go over 65 mph, it sounds like I'm driving in 40 mph winds when it is not windy outside.  It has been at the Fleetwood service center in riverside ca twice for a total of two months down time and they can't fix it.  They have taped up the entry door, rear view mirrors and adjusted the hood but still no luck.  If anyone is experiencing this issue, please let me know and if it was fixed, what was the issue.  Thank you

I have a 2016 Excursion 35E and driver heat is an issue. When delivered one of the ducts to the passenger side was crimped so it got no flow at all. Service Center fixed that. Drivers side flow is poor but didn’t notice until after the SC visit so is on the list for April. I note on mine that the driver heat hose discharges directly onto a large wiring bundle. My first thought is to move the outfall a little to get a direct discharge on my feet. Hose appears to only attach with a single screw to the plywood dash support so this shouldn’t be too hard. Waiting for warmer weather to try that. You can ask Fleetwood for the heater hose diagram which gives a good look at where the designer intended it all to route.

As to the wind noise I thought I had a similar problem. Noticed a roaring that appeared and then dissipated now and again. I’m limited to 65 MPH by my toad so I didn’t correlate it with speed. Freightliner mech at Fleetwood said it was the blower in the rear that forces more air through the radiator when coolant tem hits a threshold. Blower maxes the air through the radiator and then some. Excess air ends up flowing forward under the coach through a tunnel formed by the chassis rails and is audible up front until the coolant temp drops. Not sure if the tunnel is by design or an inadvertent consequence. Depending on your driving conditions and outside temp this might be part of what you’re hearing. See if the noise correlates to the coolant temp dash gauge next time you’re out.

I spoke to a technical support at Fleetwood about the lack of driver's heat. He said that he "thought" he had heard other complaints about this and would make a notation of it for the record. He offered no suggestions for a fix.

Regarding the wind noise. I hear it too, mostly at speeds above 40 mph. It's not so bothersome that I feel a need to do anything about it. The dash and door vibration squeaks and rattles are more of problem for me.

I crawled under the dash and saw several loose or unattached screws into the plastic dash and wood panels. Hopefully tightening or replacing them will make a difference. As to the door, I'm not sure what to do.

When we were having problems with the kitchen sink drain in our Excursion I learned from this forum that Fleetwood  had a fix for the design problem.  I phoned customer service and told the rep what I had learned.  He politely insisted he had never heard of the problem so he knew of no fixes.  He started to hang up when I forced the issue telling him that more than one person had posted this information on this forum.  He then started asking other reps and found out there indeed was and problem and a fix.  It just took a little more digging than should have been necessary.

Service Center relocated the outlet end of the under dash heat discharge hose and there is now heat. Plenty of flow coming out - it was just misdirected.  The hose isn't terminated in anything solid so the spring action of the hose construction tends to rotate the end closed against whatever its attached to. I'm going to get a small section of PVC pipe to stick in the end and provide an attachment point. This should keep the end open and allow me to aim it exactly where it needs to go.

    Hugh,

My dealer's service dept said that this is a "design flaw" and that there wasn't anything they could do about it. Can you describe in a little more detail how this was fixed in your rig? I'd really appreciate it. It is summer now, but driving last winter was really uncomfortable. Thanks!

It is indeed a design defect or at best poor installation of one component without regard for another component nearby.  The dash heater has a hose that heads over to the driver’s side under the dash. The hose is a fabric hose with spiral wire reinforcing and it gets a wood screw through the end of it to hold it up off the floor. The screw goes into the plywood backing that holds up the dash. The problem was that there was a wiring bundle placed right in front of the discharge that effectively blocked the flow.  Techs took the screw out and swung the hose around to aim at the right side of the driver foot area and put a screw to hold the outlet there. But, the wire reinforcing in the hose acts like a spring to rotate the opening around the screw attachment that directs the flow into the right side under dash wall. My solution now it to get e small section of PVC pipe that fits in the hose and then mount the PVC to the same place on the under dash side to stop the  hose from rotating. The PVC will then also allow me to better direct the flow where I really want it. Hope that helps.
