Hurd Escape window pulled away from glass

I have a 2015 Bounder 35k and on a recent trip the metal strip attached to the escape window detached from the glass. It certainly seems like I could fix it if I get the right glue. Has anyone else had this issue? How have you resolved it?

I won’t consider the dealer (don’t ask)… I thought about a window a mobile glass repair company if necessary. But I’m still leaning toward a DYI project. Suggestions welcomed.

Not sure how it was originally attached. Was it a double side tape, pressure fit, or glue? If tape, 3M makes some really strong tape intended for body side moldings that would probably work. If it was glue, I would think the glue kits for putting a mirror on might work, but I'd be a touch leery since it is what holds the window closed. I know a good glass shop should be able to get you the right glue.

I had the same thing happen last week. I used 3m two sided tape and so far it is working well. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the responses … the 3M tape sounds like a good solution. Where did you find the tape and what were the specifics (name, part number, etc)?

    Jim,

Sorry for slow response, missed your question. Any auto parts store should have what you want. It's used for attaching body side moldings.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I finally went with the 3M trim tape. It came in a 1/2” width which was nearly perfect. I did end up applying a 2nd layer of the tape over the first as the thickness was just shy of the depth on the metal piece. So far so good.

Update on my window issue… EPIC FAIL!!! It really seemed for awhile that the trim tape was the solution. Unfortunately today, as we started our winter trip south, our first hint there was a problem was that the window wouldn’t close after it had been opened. It looked like the tape had slipped down the window slightly (probably due to heat through the window). I was able to get it closed with the help of a butter knife (right tool for the right job ;-).  I lifted the metal edge up just enough to get over the foal seal

However, today after moving to a new campground, my wife pointed out to me that the metal strip had again peeled away from the glass. So, after taping the window shut (with clear packing tape) I need a “plan B”.

    Any other suggestions?
