Steps started grinding and going out partially. Continue to grind after I pull them out the rest of the way.  Same on the retracting phase.  Question: Can it be fixed or am I looking at a new gear/motor unit?

It is likely the gear box, you may need to lay under the coach and watch and listen, be careful.

I have seen in previous forms that many of the step assemblies use a Ford windshield wiper gearbox and motor available at a parts store. Good luck

We have a '13 Bounder 35K.  I parked too close to a curb and jammed the steps when we opened the door.  I had to replace the motor as it completely quit.  I did it myself and it was not too hard, took about 1 hour.  Be sure to watch your fingers while wiring and testing.  I do not recall the price of the new motor.

In 2015 the steps on our 2008 Bounder quit working in the 'in' position. Found a replacement motor on the internet, less than $70, but don't remember where from. I did the labor myself, the most difficult part was getting the old motor out with the steps retracted. Once I got the motor out, I cleaned it up, oiled it, and it started working again. I went ahead an installed the new motor, and have kept the old motor as a back-up. It may not work again should I need it, but you never know.
