Propane monitor Question

I recently left the MH parked beside our S&B and unplugged it while we were out of the area.

While gone, a friend called to say there was beeping coming from inside the rig.

When we got home, I heard the "beeping". and thought it came from the smoke alarm.

Shortly after changing the battery, the beeping started again. Thinking it was a bad battery, I replaced it again.

Beeping continued without the battery in place and I found it  coming from the propane detector.

My question is, will this stop on its own or is the detector due to be replaced.

The rig is a little more than a year old.

    Thanks for the info.

It will stop when the coach battery is dead.  Do you have a switch that is labeled store or use?  if you do when you are not using the coach you should put it in the store position at this will disconnect the battery supply and save the coach batteries.

Appreciate the info and I 'll look for the switches you mentioned.

But it still doesn't answer the question if the propane sensor

needs to be replaced to stop it from beeping.

The job of the propane monitor is to detect propane leaks. The first thing you need to do is assure yourself that there are no leaks in the propane system. Spray a solution of liquid dish soap and water on each connection in the system. if there is a leak at that point the spray solution will bubble. This can be a little tricky to do yourself so you may want to have a service center perform. You definitely do not want any leaks in the system. If no leaks are found then it is possible the detector is defective. Contact the manufacturer as it should still be under warranty.

Propane detectors, being close to the ground can be sensitive to dust, dirt and pet hair  After assuring you do not have a propane leak, remove the detector.  It will have two or three wires attached to it.  Vacuum or use use an air can and try to clear any hair or dust that may have gotten into the detector.  This may clear the alarm.  Some detectors are wired to a solenoid shutoff valve which may need to be reset at the valve or if the propane tank shutoff valve was opened, the solenoid may reset when shutting off the propane tank valve.  If you do have to replace the detector, shop around there can be a wide variety of prices for the same model detector.

RJ, I did try blowing air into the monitor and it did help for a few seconds then it started started beeping again.

When it quits raining, I plan on replacing the unit.

We had an issue with our sensor. After you check for leaks you may find the sensor has reached its useful life. They do have a time replacement recommendation. We were unable to find one that was compatible with our shut- off solenoid. Insure you purchase one that is will work with your existing solenoid. Our replacement system included both a new senor and matching solenoid valve. They are easy to replace with basic electrical and plumbing skills
