Problems with Trac Vision

The switch is located in the R/H front panel. The manual states "switch the unit on and you should get a red light and hear the sat. move". I get no red light and no sound. I have checked the fuse in panel and it is good. Just purchased the unit and previous owner never used it. Is it possible that the sat. itself is stuck from not being used. I have a appointment at camping world but would like to fix it without driving 3 hours one way.

    Any suggestions?

Our sat is not a Trac Vision.  When we turn ours on, we have to 'press and hold' the button for 3-4 seconds until we hear the sat start to move, then we 'let go' of the button.  Try holding down your button for a few seconds to see if your sat will eventually start to move.  Good luck.

    Hi Marty.

We have a KVH TracVision R4SL and used to use it with DISH and a VIP211k receiver. It worked reasonably well for a number of years. Then this year, when we were getting ready to head out for the summer it stopped working; just kept hunting; couldn't lock on to any satellites. following are a couple of fragments from an email exchange I had with an RV satellite guy.

(Me) I am using a KVH TracVision R4SL with a Dish Network vip211k receiver. Everything was working fine last October and our RV has been in storage since then. We are getting ready to head out again this summer and the system didn't work. The R4SL couldn’t find any satellites - just kept hunting (we are clear of trees, etc.).

(Him) Hello Ed, Sorry to be the one to update you with the going ons with Dishnet and Dome satellite systems. IE: KVH, KINGDOME, TRACSTAR.....
Here's the poop. As of mid-March this year Dishnet for lack of better description made some changes on how they were going to send the signal to all satellites. With this update it rendurd most RV satellites incompatible to track sats-119-110-129. With the exception of the newer satellites that are on the market today. Because they have the software that is compatible. At best if your KVHR4sl system would be repairable it would only pickup sat-119 with limited channels.
In the short of things if you want to stay with Dishnet then you are looking at replacing the dome.

I ended up with a Winegard G2 and it works very well. In fact, better, because I can place it wherever I want to get the best signal.

If your situation is similar, maybe consider going a different way.

    Regards, EdC
