Exclusion 33D Maintenance

We have a couple maintenance issues with our recently purchased Excursion 33D.

First, the Cummins ISB 300 users manual says that water should be drained from the fuel filter daily. Does anyone know where that filter is located, how to get to it, and how to drain it?

Second, does anyone have suggestions on how to get to the coach batteries to check water levels and add water if needed? Access to three appears difficult and to the fourth, impossible.

    Thanks for any Ideas.

    Jack

The water filter hangs in front of the water control panel, in the drivers side basement in front of the rear wheels....I don't re call seeing the change water daily...if you are living in the bus, that water will change....even between uses, we have not found the water to go stale....as for checking the water in the house batteries, I would love to hear a good solution....we have not checked ours yet, but it looks to be a monkey business...imho, a very poor design for maintenance purposes....have you had a problem with the kitchen sink hose kinking when the slide goes in and out?...we are talking with corp on that one...no solution yet

We haven't had a problem of kinking of the sink hose, as far as we know, but we've never had very high water flow to any location.

Regarding the batteries, I suspect they will have to be removed to check water level. What a poorly designed use of space for the batteries. Also, you should pay special attention to the one, fairly accessable battery in front of the DEF tank. It's location is open to the road, just behind the rear wheels where it will gets very dirty with road debris which could have a bad effect on that battery's performance and shorten its life. It should be cleaned frequently. Don't know why this compartment isn't enclosed.

My other question was about the FUEL filter, not the water filter.

I used to have a boat with the same battery issue. I used a flashlight and long handled inspection mirror to check the water level and a turkey baster to add water.

I went to water filter, and only now noticed you are talking about fuel filter...I didn't see the drain requirement, but will look for the filter on my rig and let you know what I find....I think it is in the hatch from the back, but don't know now....my duramax had a sensor wire from the bottom of the filter that let you know when water buildup was too much....in 35k miles over 6 years it never went on warning....I changed the fuel filter every 10k so 4 times over that time period...

Thanks, Mel. I suspect it is somewhere along a frame rail between the fuel tank and engine. I hoped someone would know but guess I have to go searching underneath.

I took up the hatch under the back bed, and looked in all the basements....never saw one....I think they are normally attached to the engine block....let us know when you find it...we are going to Decatur in Sept, so if we don't know by then, I will ask...

Just back from Decatur with my 35E which is similar. Filter is located on right side of engine (facing forward) and is accessed from underneath.  Access isn't easy but the mech didn't seem to think it needed the level of attention printed in the manual. He did indicate that its important to follow the post-draining protocol to re-fill it. I seem to remember seeing the details on you tube. Something about crank and wait, crank and wait, etc.  If you do drain it be sure to know how to get refill it before cranking the engine forever.  I'm headed to a Freightliner shop next week for some other issues and will see what they say.
