Just bought our first motor home in years and trying to catch up on the latest technology.  The manual says to change the oil every 3000 miles.  But with 75000 miles on our coach, I'm wondering if this can be extended much like my diesel pick-ups I use in my business once they have reached a certain higher mileage?
Also, what kind of fuel mileage should I expect?  My first 2000 mile trip averaged 6.5 mpg without towing anything.  I did keep the speed at 65-70 mph most of the way,.

Hi Mike; I have an'06 Providence 39S. I change my oil once a year based on my local Freightliner dealer's recommendation. We have 21,000 on it and only do 3-5K a year. As a rule, I'm in the 8-9 MPG range and always tow my Jeep wherever we go. But, I always have the cruise set at 60 where feasible. I used to run 65/70 and got the same mileage you quote. It's amazing what a few MPH can do for your MPG!  Happy trails.

oil changes can very due to the type of oil if you use full syn. oils from top mfg. like Shaffer oils with mollys can 10,000 to 12,000 milles these are reconmended by my cat dealer with standard oils many top oils will test your samples of your oils to determind frequeny of changes

Hi Mike, I have a 07 Providence with a Cat. C7 engine.  My manual says change oil every 11,000 miles or 12 months which ever comes first.

I can't believe a manual for a diesel engine recommending oil change every 3000 miles?

same engine in a work environment will have a 250 hour or 15000 mile interval and if using quality synthetics can up that to 400 hours or 20000 miles

i run my delivery trucks 12000 miles between changes and I use the best oil I can buy , Amsoil

I use it in my motorhome too but change every year , but the used oil goes into another older vehicle , hows that for recycling

I also got 10.4 mpg average on a trip last week from detroit to alberta

I change the oil in my 06 Discovery each year no matter the milage. Here is a link to the dieselrvclub that can answer most questions you would have with diesel engines.

We drive a 16 Excursion 33D and the manual says change the oil once a year of 15k miles....Older engines may go longer, but my 04 Duramax truck only tells me to change at 10k miles (as per the internal computer)....we just finished a 1800 mile trip from Mt to Wa towing a Honda CRV...went over seven mountain passes....cruise set on 65 at the max, and got 10.4 mpg for the trip....newer engines are more efficient....
