In 1997 the Storm was built on both the Ford chassis and the Chevy chassis. Sounds like you have the Chevy as they did have air bags inside the front springs, did not have any in the rear. Their purpose was to assist the front springs. I never had one go bad so not sure impact on driveability, but can imagine an impact on steering. Usually kept our pressure between 60-80 psi. You have to keep inflated manually, they are not automatic. There is a valve at bottom of air bag, you have to get under motor home to get to it.

We picked her up and ran over to Huntsville - about 250 mi trip - and experienced a BIG improvement in steering.  The wheel held steady so steering much improved.  Our air bags have been plumbed to have valves up just under the hood so pressure and fill is easy.  We had a good trip  The GenSet ran for 3 days without missing a lick.  All Good.
