    Hello All.

The time has come to replace my Atwood GE16 EXT (10 gallon ) water heater. It can be gas or electric operated. Here are the questions and I hope someone can advise

1/ since Atwood is no longer in business REV advised that they have " drop in replacement " which is basically the same dims as my old Atwood.

2/ I was also told by local General RV that would recommend tankless water heater BUT some modification to the outside opening has to be made.

Tankless water heater sounds very appealing but I am not sure about outside opening modifications?

Did anyone installed tankless ( as replacement for regular heater ) ? IF so can I please have a picture of the outside and general input regarding the decision ?

OR.. should I just go with " regular " " drop in " replacement ?

Thank you kindly for the comments. Looking forward to hear from you

1st I am surprised your heater needs replacement.  Not a whole lot that can't be fixed relatively easily  on those units. I guess the big question is does the drop in replacement work the same as the atwood? Our 08 had the gas and electric version and with both on it was effective as our Truma in our 17 discovery. If you can operate both gas and electric I don't know if you would really notice improvement with the tankless.

And of course there is the exterior modification which could be a paint match issue.

Hi Bill. Thanks for your reply. You are right. No replacement needed. I've removed ( partially ) the heater and disconnected all lines from the back. I cleaned all of them and cleaned all the small screens inside some of them as well as mixing valve. Put all back together and have good pressure of hot water in every faucet inside the coach:-) Thank you again for your input.
