    2021 Fleetwood Fortis 33 HB.

Newbie here:  This is our third rv but our first Class A.  Can we use the generator to power the refrigerator while we are driving?  The generator needs to be used once a month so we thought when we take our first trip we would do so until we got to the RV Park.   Is it possible to run the refrigerator from the generator?  How does the system know where to pull the power from?

    Thanks

Going to make an assumption that you have a residential fridge.

Make sure your house and aux battery switches are turned on.  Make sure the cutoff switch in the bay where your inverter is located is turned to the working position (if you have a switch)   Lastly, make sure your inverter is on.

Your engine charges your house batteries as you drive,  Your house batteries run the inverter.  The inverter runs the fridge.

Before your trip make sure that your house batteries (possibly located under the entry steps) are filled with distilled water, and charged.  This would be the reason to run your generator if you are not plugged into shore power.

The other reason to run your generator on a trip is to be able to run your coaches AC unit(s) as you drive.

    Congrats on your new RV!

We have a 2013 Bounder 35K with refrigerator that is both propane and electric.  We almost always run the generator while traveling.  We find we can then run the house air conditioners so that when we arrive at our destination the RV is already comfortable and does not have to catch up.  This is very nice if setting up on a hot day.  Coming into a cool space after hooking up the utilities is very pleasant.  Additionally, the inside is comfortable while setting it up.

Our generator uses about 1/3 of a gallon of gasoline an hour with a full load on it.  We find it worth it.

    Enjoy!
