I have a 2006 Fleetwood Disel Bounder, has an Inverter, Model Freedom 458 Series.

Problem, I live in Utah, which has very cold temps.  I was sold a Trickle Charger to keep the coach batteries charged during winter. The problem is the Trickle Charger did not maintain the charged, therefore, all four batteries froze and are cracked.  Needless to say, I will have a healthy $500 bill to replace them.

My question, will my inverter maintain the coach and chaise batteries when it is in storage? I did have a 220 50 AMP outlet installed.  Do I have to set the 'smart' choice power control to idle or will the inverter automatic shut off so as not to overcharge the batteries. I read an article that states that inverters will charge at a constant rate of 13.5; this is too high for a floating charge and can deplete the electrolyte over a period of time.

Will the inverter automatically shut off or do I have to go in and re-program it.  What do you do to prepare your coach for winter; other that the regular maintenance.  I would really appreciate any help I can get.  I guess I need to turn on the inverter to charge my chaise batteries.  One thing, I did check if the trickle charger was working each month and all was well, until this month.  You know how it feels to open up a can of worms.
