Last fall I bought my 2005 Fleetwood Pace Arrow from a private seller. Last year my side by side refrigerator limped along and I was able to use my freezer as a refrigerator and was annoyed, but it worked for me. This year, it cooled to a chilly 65 degrees. So I put a small apartment sized refrigerator (I happened to have) in the coach and thought I'd do ok with that. NOT.....everything falls out, I have to bend way over to get into it, I have to move it all the time to move the tip outs, and it doesn't hold enough food, soda, water ....WHAT A PITA!
I made an appointment for 8/30 to have it looked at. 2 months (geez) Then was informed it likely was not repairable and I would probably have to remove my windshield to get a replacement inside whether I went with a residential or another RV type of unit. Upon looking at my door, that's a no brainer... it's a small door.
Deep inside either this site or another RV site I found a link that led me to https://rvcoolingunit.com/ and David Frost, who owns that site talked us through determining that we did, in fact, need a new "cooling unit". What a great guy. I was hesitant to spend so much money and not need what I was buying........ But everything indicated that the fridge was SHOT, and if I ever wanted a working refrigerator again, I was going to spend some money. It looked like the local repair company might be as high as $3,800 to remove and replace the windshield......OUCH.
We were able to drive to the "JC Refrigeration" https://jc-refrigeration.com/ site in Northern Indiana, 6.5 hours from home, and they installed everything new: fans, heaters, cooling units, and if our boards were bad they would have replaced them too! It's a great town. We are camping the rest of the weekend.... and will leisurely drive home with COLD BEVERAGES and food. WHOO HOO!
JC's bill was $1,200 with a 3 year warranty. Installation included.
I paid $1,500 through the other site, but he helped me diagnose and made the connection for me to the factory for the install.... so all in all, I came out a winner.
I AM TRULY A HAPPY CAMPER :-)
