99 bounder 34J, Chevy P30: hazard flasher location?

My hazard flasher is not working correctly. It will flash normally for a few seconds, then the flash rate slows down, then it stops flashing with the lights in the ON state. If I turn it off for a minute, the behavior will repeat. I assume the problem is with the flasher unit (relay?).

This unit has two flashers: a turn-signal (TS) flasher, located on the chassis fuse block; and a hazard flasher. Finding the TS flasher was easy. But I can't find the hazard flasher. Various searches on the web have suggested that it is on, or near, the steering column. I pulled off all of the plastic and metal covers around the steering column, looking for it, with no success.

Maybe I'm not looking for the right thing. I have been looking for an aluminium can, like the TS flasher. Is the hazard flasher different?

This is making me nuts! Any help greatly appreciated.

... further to this, I contacted Fleetwood and GM, with no success.

I finally found it! It is inside a bracket that supports the steering column. It is buried so deeply that I had to unbundle some of the wire harnesses and follow the wires to find it - I found it with my fingers, not my eyes. A video borescope and mirror didn't help. Two repair facilities gave up after spending a couple of hours looking for it.

I would have attached a schematic that helped me find it, but I can't figure out how to do it - or, maybe that can't be done at all (?).
